23 tests. Every component. Full confidence before you price a single device.
ITAD margins depend on accurate device assessment. A missed dead pixel or a failing battery discovered after pricing costs you money. reCore runs 23 diagnostic tests -- automated and manual -- so you know the true condition of every device before it moves to the next stage.

What gets tested
Every diagnostic session covers the full hardware profile of a device. Automated tests run programmatically while interactive tests guide the technician through hands-on checks, completing a typical laptop assessment in under eight minutes. Each test produces a pass, fail, or warning result with a precise duration and optional technician notes.
Automated tests
These tests run without technician intervention. The client application drives them programmatically, reports results in real time, and moves to the next test automatically.
Battery health
Reads design capacity, current capacity, cycle count, and charge rate. Calculates health percentage and flags batteries below configurable thresholds.
Storage diagnostics
Pulls SMART data from every detected drive. Reports reallocated sector count, power-on hours, wear level, and overall health scoring.
CPU & GPU detection
Identifies processor model, core count, clock speeds, and GPU specifications. Benchmarks basic performance to verify hardware integrity.
Memory analysis
Detects installed RAM modules, slot configuration, type, speed, and total capacity. Reports module-level details for accurate device valuation.
Wireless & Bluetooth
Detects WiFi and Bluetooth adapters, confirms connectivity status, and reports adapter capabilities.
Thermal & fan monitoring
Reads CPU and component temperatures, detects fan presence, and reports fan RPM to identify cooling system issues.
Interactive tests
These tests require technician interaction. The client application guides the technician through each check with clear visual prompts and records the results.
Display analysis
Cycles through test patterns to detect dead pixels, check color accuracy, and assess backlight uniformity. Touchscreen presence is flagged where detected.
Keyboard mapping
Every key is individually registered against a virtual layout. Missing, stuck, or intermittent keys are flagged. Backlight function is tested where applicable.
Port verification
Guided checklist covering USB ports (type A, C), HDMI, DisplayPort, Ethernet, SD card reader, headphone jack, and power jack for connectivity.
Camera test
Captures test frames from the webcam with live preview. Supports device switching for multi-camera setups.
Audio system
Plays left/right speaker test tones and records a sample through the microphone for playback verification.
Trackpad test
Verifies click, scroll, and cursor tracking. Detects cursor skipping and multi-touch response.
Manual inspections
Some defects can only be caught by a person. reCore guides the technician through a structured checklist with clear pass/fail criteria for each item. This eliminates the inconsistency of free-form notes and ensures every technician evaluates the same things.
Security scanning
Before committing processing time and wipe credits to a device, reCore checks for management profiles and firmware locks that could prevent resale entirely.
MDM profile detection -- Enterprise management profiles from Intune, MobileIron, VMware Workspace ONE, SCCM, MaaS360, ManageEngine, and others are identified so they can be removed through proper channels before the device enters the resale pipeline.
Absolute/Computrace detection -- Devices with persistence agents embedded in firmware are flagged. These agents survive OS reinstallation and can remotely lock or wipe the device after sale if not properly deactivated.
BIOS/UEFI password check -- Devices with firmware passwords that would prevent OS reinstallation or normal boot are flagged for resolution before processing continues.
Azure AD and Autopilot detection -- Devices enrolled in Azure Active Directory or Windows Autopilot are identified so IT administrators can remove them from their tenant before the device is resold.
How results flow
As each test completes, results sync to the cloud dashboard via WebSocket. There is no batch upload delay -- the dashboard shows test progress in real time as it happens. If the device loses connectivity mid-session, results queue locally on the client and upload automatically when the connection restores. No data is lost.
Each result includes the test name, outcome (pass/fail/warning), duration in seconds, a summary score, any error messages, and optional technician notes. These roll up into the device's overall diagnostic profile, which directly informs the automated grading calculation downstream.
