How a device moves through reCore
A technician connects a device -- laptop, desktop, or workstation -- to the reCore client via USB boot or local installation. The system automatically collects hardware specifications: serial number, manufacturer, model, CPU, RAM, storage configuration, and GPU.
From there, the technician initiates a diagnostic session. Tests execute across every major component. Automated tests handle display quality, keyboard mapping, battery health, port verification, SMART analysis, and wireless connectivity. Manual prompts guide physical inspections like hinge tension, fan noise, and charging port condition. Each test returns a pass, fail, or warning with duration.
Once diagnostics complete, data wiping begins. The operator selects a compliance method and the wipe executes per-drive. A laptop with two SSDs produces two independent wipe records, each tied to that drive's serial number. Post-wipe verification reads the entire drive and generates a SHA-256 hash for integrity confirmation.
Grading follows: seven cosmetic components scored using standardized defect options. The system calculates a final A/B/C/D/F grade based on the weakest component. Defects are cataloged with standardized options for each component.
Finally, an administrator verifies the wipe record (the system enforces that the verifier cannot be the operator) and generates a NIST-compliant PDF certificate. The device is marked complete. Every step is visible on the dashboard in real time.
